Benefits of Lick Mats for Dogs: Having a lick mat Benefits of Lick Mats for Dogs:
Having a lick mat in your arsenal of dog enrichment activities is a must. These devices offer a host of benefits to meet dogs’ many different needs. For instance, a lick mat filled with frozen chicken broth, peanut butter, yogurt, etc. can soothe an anxious dog during fireworks displays or thunderstorms, visitors in your home. Licking releases endorphins that help create calm. It can also give you a few moments of peace from an overactive, mouthy puppy.

Lick mats also aim to:
- Promote dental health. A lick mat’s grooves and ridges help scrape away residue on your dog’s teeth, staving off dental disease and tooth loss. While not a substitute for tooth brushing, lick mats can be part of a balanced dental maintenance routine.

- Create positive associations. Crate training offers countless benefits, giving dogs a calm place to retreat, rest, and recuperate. Successfully crate training a dog requires creating a positive association with the kennel, which could involve using lick mats coated in treats.

- Slow down eating. Some lick mats double as slow feeders, preventing dogs from gobbling down their food in seconds. This can work to reduce the likelihood of bloat (also known as gastric dilation-volvulus), which can result from a dog eating and drinking too quickly.

Lick mats also offer a simple form of entertainment for both dog and owner. You get the joy of creating a tasty treat for your dog, and they get the joy of polishing it off.

Bear, a 4 year old Mini Bernerdoodle gets very anxious, overly stimulated and hyper focuses when guest arrive; even guests he has formed a relationship with. His lick mats help to ground him. They give him something else to focus on while helping to give his mind a moment to settle and allow the endorphins to help calm him while also teaching him to self soothe. This does NOT replace working your training program, but is a valuable tool that can help along your journey to creating better and more reliable behaviors.

Owning a business is always a mix of business and Owning a business is always a mix of business and pleasure. Let’s get the business part outta the way so we can get down to the pleasure part. 📍

Since there has been some confusion or misunderstanding recently about the required vaccines needed to attend the INDOOR Group Classes (including Private Training) held in Far Upper NE Philadelphia, I felt it was a good idea to post a reminder.

Training, whether Group Classes or Private Sessions, held at this location requires proof of completed and up to date vaccination from your Veterinarian for Bordetella, Canine Influenza, Rabies, Distemper and Parvo. It is your job to know what you furiend needs to attend training at this location - not your Vet's office. Not all facilities require the same vaccinations and not all Veterinarian offices or employees know what each facility or trainer's requirements are. I suggest that you give your Veterinarian office a list of the required vaccines to make sure these requirements are met in just 1 or 2 visits, saving you some time and money because nothing was missed due to any miscommunication.

It is YOUR responsibility to know that your furiend has the required proof of vaccinations before you commit to a Group Class or Private Training schedule, or to keep up with the vaccination schedule if you have a puppy. It is not always possible for me to move you to another group class or to reschedule your dates because of issues with vaccines after the fact. Bordetella and Canine Influenza are NOT part of an average vaccination protocol. You have to request these vaccines be administered. So, "my furiend is up to date on their vaccines" is not always an accurate answer.

These requirements are mandated by the facility I book space at so I can offer INDOOR Group Classes and Private Sessions to those out of my service area = all clients agreeing to commit to training at this location must meets those same requirements.

As always, I appreciate your cooperation, understanding and your business. Once all of the politics are out of the way, we can focus on just having fun! 🤗🤪

We don't whisper, we reward!

Dogs don’t care about money. They care about praise, food and fun. Positive Reinforcement or Force Free training works by using praise, positive actions and rewards, rather than punishment or correction, to teach your dog what you expect from them. The key with this type of training is to determine what motivates your dog, and then to use that motivator as a reward to reinforce the correct behavior. In positive reinforcement dog training you can use treats, toys, physical affection, verbal praise, a clicker or a combination of any of these items, to reward your dog for correct behavior.
